Labor Day weekend, which falls the first full weekend of September every year, is sort of like the official beginning of the Fall season in the US. We spent the long weekend visiting our friends the Platt Family, in Northern Virginia. Griffin had a good time, and even spent his first night in a real crib! One evening we had a small BBQ with a few other couples, where we counted 13 kids under the age of 6! Griffin was the youngest baby, but did his best to keep up with the other rugrats. The 3 Platt kids (ages 6, 5 and 3) LOVED having Griffin there- they couldn't wait to get to feed him a bottle and change his diapers! It was really cute. Sunday was a beautiful day and so we all headed out to a local Virginia winery which had a large outdoor area that was very kid and dog friendly. The weather was perfect and we were really appreciating being home in the US and having the chance to have such perfect days like that with old friends (and new kids!).
In other news, the Tuesday after we returned, we had our last appointment at CHOP to test Griffin's platelets, and he's normal. They cleared him completely, so we won't have to go back anymore, and there's no risk that he'll have future problems from this. Alloimmune Thrombo Cytopena is the official diagnosis. Steve and I will have to get some advising from a perinatologist just in case we should have issues in any future pregnancies, but for now, it's only just hypothetical! :)
Griffin continues to grow, and the CHOP nurse measured him at 24 1/4 inches and 13.7lbs! He's smiling and giggling all the time now, and talks like crazy. He is sleeping through the night sometimes as much as 11 hours at a time, and we're working on gradually moving his bedtime up earlier, to a more reasonable hour. For a long time we couldn't get it any earlier than about midnight, but over the last few weeks we've managed to creep it up to 9-10ish or so, and hope to land somewhere around 7 or 8pm, eventually.
Enjoying a beautiful early September day at a Virginia winery
