I'm not much of a runner, but I try- and I'm definitely not much of a racer. In fact I've only done one other race in my life, the GW Parkway 10miler, in 2005, waaaaaay before Griffin and at a point when I was indeed running quite a bit. Enter to the story the tsunami, Sri Lanka, Thailand, 2 rounds of dengue fever, super hot climates, beer aplenty and then, of course, baby Griffin, and I just never really got back into running like that. Not that I have now, but I've been on a pretty big kick since January to get back into shape and get rid of this lingering baby weight. So when some other moms in the office wanted to put a team together for the Baltimore Women's Classic 5k, with a team name of "Mamas on the Run," I thought, why not? Running 5k in my own neighborhood should be a piece of cake! In the end, I hadn't kept up running quite as much as I'd wanted, and also ended up coming down with a sinus infection the same week, but I still did it! I'm really proud of myself, and really hope to do more. For the sake of finishing, but also for the sake of the closet full of nice clothes that I'm little by little getting back into! (and the new ones I can justify buying!)
The best part of the race was a few hundred yards into the course, just around a corner from the starting line, a round of "aaaaahhhhhh"s that emerged from the women ahead of me and slowly made their way back towards me. When I got up ahead a little further, what did I see? MY OWN HUSBAND with Griffin in the stroller and a HUGE homemade sign that said, "Go Mommy Go!" complete with 2 year old scribbles! I have no idea when they made that but it was the best surprise ever! I wasn't even sure if they were going to make it up and out of the house in time to see me, and they did, and caught me at several spots on the racecourse! My boys are so awesome!!!

| Some of the "Mamas on the Run!" I'm wearing one of Steve's Tshirts from another race (a bike race in Thailand) b/c I couldn't find my blue LWR shirt at the last minute. Ooops! |
