Just yesterday....

Just yesterday I was driving with Griffin to a mom's/baby group gathering. On the way there, just before the turn off to the turnpike, I saw a minivan pulled over. Clearly it was a family taking a kid to college- the back of the minivan was open and a barely college-aged kid was rearranging a very fully packed car. Oh how I remember those days- as if they were yesterday! I was struck by how surreal it was- how fast time flies, and there I was, with a new baby, on my way to a baby group!

Bekah, Griffin and Evangeline

It's sort of been one of those weeks, I guess. This past weekend, my friend Alexis visited with her 9 month old daughter Bekah. Alexis and I went to graduate school together, and during those years in DC, we often hung out with Manda, my best high school friend, who also has an 8-month old daughter, Evangeline. Anyway, the three of us went out for a great dinner one night while our husbands and my mom watched the babies. On the way home, we were laughing how we had spent most of the entire evening talking about various aspects of cloth diapers, diaper bags, baby sleep schedules, and baby food. A stark contrast to the conversations we used to have together 10 years ago! Although I had to laugh about it, I didn't mind, because I learn a ton of vital information from these ladies, as they are "ahead of me" in the baby raising process, so they can always answer my millions of questions. Of course, Alexis reminded me of a book club meeting we all went to many years back, and how I spent the entire ride home bitching about how all we talked about were recipies and cooking magazines. To think that we spent a whole evening of cocktails and fondue talking about baby stuff now, is too funny.

Alas, I don't have to worry to much about my brain and conversation becoming too domesticated, as I return back to work on Monday. I'll be supporting my team with the final close-out process of the tsunami program, but working from home. At this point, I'm scheduled to work through the end of October this way, with a trip or two to the office in DC. Steve will watch Griffin but I'll be able to still feed him most of the day, so it should work out well. It will be hard not to have my napping cuddle time with Griffin, but my brain is ready to be stimulated again, and he needs to learn to nap in his bed anyway!
