First Day of Preschool!!

Griffin started preschool today! He started at a full-time Montessori program nearby, and they have full day-care hours. It's been a day and we already miss Kasey, but I'm sure she's enjoying her 4-month trip to Europe with her husband! I promised to keep this blog updated for her, so here goes- look at me, same day service! (at least this time- still have half the summer blog posts to catch up on...)

Griffin was very excited to go to school, and when we arrived he made me put him down so he could walk up the path to the door "BY SELF!" He ran right up to the door and couldn't wait to go in. Of course when we got into his classroom, he clung tight to me, as he watched everything going on. The teacher came over and told me that it was probably best if "we do this quickly." So they kicked me out, even though I wanted to stay longer! I cried when they pried Griffin off of me, but interestingly, he didn't. A few minutes later I peeked through the door and he looked fine, holding his teacher's hand and watching the class. I called to check in around 1:30pm (luckily I knew he was the only new student in his class starting this week or else I'd have felt more guilty calling) and they said that he wouldn't nap but was otherwise doing well. I figured as much, since he's a great sleeper, but according to his own napping routine...with his binky. No binkies at school!! When I picked him up the teacher told me he sat nicely on the cot most of the time, and he even said to her, "shhhhhh...kids sleeping!" So cute. When I picked him up at 3:30 he seemed okay, but as soon as he saw me he broke out sobbing and said, "go home mommy! go home."  Poor guy, it was a bit much for him maybe, especially with no nap. So we had a nice couple hours of mommy time at home, and he went to sleep hard at bedtime. And we'll go back again tomorrow!

At home before we left for school- he finally learned what it means when I say, "smile!"

Walking up to school "BY SELF!" (as he calls it)
