Preschool, after Day 2

No pictures today, but a quick report.

Day 2 of preschool was probably worse than Day 1. He didn't want to go from the time he woke up, kept telling me he wanted to play at home, in Griffin's room. I managed to get him into the car and on the way there (it's about a mile from our house), he did start to get excited and talk about school a bit. He wanted to walk up to the doors again, "by self!" But when we got into his room, he clung right on to me and wanted to go home. The teacher had to pry him off of me again, and this time he was kicking and screaming and crying. It was awful. I cried in the car. Luckily my friend Claire, the mom of the other boy in our nanny share (Jack also started at the same school on Tuesday) saw me and hugged me, again- she gave me much-needed hugs the first day too! Steve is still in New Orleans with the Hurricane Issac response team.  Claire also called me about a half hour later to tell me she peeked into Griffin's room (Jack and Griffin are in different classes) and he was doing great, smiling and playing. So that was nice. I called in the afternoon again and again he didn't nap, so I went to pick him up at 3:30. I was able to peek in the classroom window and watched for about a 1/2 hour while they played and did art, and he couldn't see me. He seemed tired and a little dazed, but okay! When I went in, he again told me he wanted to go home, but he didn't melt down quite as bad as the first day. When we got home we played together and he also wasn't as fussy as the first day.  So that was good! Again he went to bed hard and slept well.

When he woke up this morning he told me once again he didn't want to go to school, but wanted to stay and play at his house. In the car on the way there, he insisted he didn't want to go to school, but wanted to go to "Griffin's office!!" I don't know what he means, have never heard him say that before. Wierd! When we got to school he was happy to walk in himself, and when we got into the building, we learned his class was outside on the playground. That's was something Griffin could get excited about! He still clung to me for a minute or two, but we went over and looked at the play house, and his friends came up and said hello, and in no time he let me put him down and went off to play. I stayed a few minutes and watched, but he was happily playing off with his friends, so I quietly slipped out and headed off to work. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that he naps today! Good luck, Griffin!
