Settling In

Griffin was 2 weeks old yesterday, and we've had him at home just over a week now. Whoa it's hard! Sleep deprived is an understatement! Steve and I are doing a pretty good job tag-teaming together, but neither of us can really see straight, so thank goodness for my mom who is feeding us, helping with laundry, settling the baby and changing diapers, and generally keeping us sane. The dogs are doing okay with this whole thing- they never pass up a chance to sniff the baby, and when he cries, they usually come over to check it out. Griffin loves his swing, and the biggest problem we have is that the dogs keep stopping it to put their chins on it, to check out the baby.

We took Griffin for his first appointment with the pediatrician and the good news is that we really like her, and she says he's doing great. The bad news is that he peed ALL over the baby scale! We also took him for his second round of lab work at CHOP yesterday, and his platelets are still looking good. These days his sleeping schedule is all over the place- some stretches he'll sleep for 3, 4, or even 5 hours, to the point that I am not sure if I should wake him to feed him, or let him sleep. (parents, nurse, and doctor's opinions on this question are all over the board, by the way- we are choosing, for now, to let him sleep....so we can) At other times he's awake and semi-fussy and eating every hour or two- guess this is what they call "cluster feeding." But this schedule is definitely not reliable- sometimes its at night, sometimes during the day, but we are always sure to have some "wide awake" time in the wee hours of the morning. But he's a cutie- as tired as I am, it's hard not to melt when his eyes are wide open looking around at me!(and also looking at his dad sound asleep next to me...until I wake him to take over when the baby gets fussy.)
